A seven-year-old Pakistani girl and her family have been given asylum in Canada after reports the child was raped and left to die when her Christian father refused to convert to Islam.

The identities of Baby Neeha and her family are being protected by immigration officials, said human rights lawyer Chantal Desloges and One Free World International, a church that was instrumental in getting the family here.

The family arrived in Canada on Dec. 12 after a three-year battle by organizers to spirit them out of danger in Pakistan....

Church founder Rev. Majed El Shafie said the family of seven have been hiding from extremists in Pakistan for about three years.

Baby Neeha, at the age of 21/2, was raped by the son of her father's employer and left to die by the roadside, he said. No one was arrested for the crime.

'These horrific events took place because her father, who was Christian, refused to give in to pressure from his Muslim employer to convert to Islam,' El Shafie said.

The family went underground in Pakistan to hide from Muslim extremists who were seeking revenge for their non-conversion, he said.

'The family has lived for years in hiding and in constant fear of being discovered by the employer's family or Islamic extremists,' El Shafie said. 'We are thrilled that she's finally in Canada.'...

Canada's Immigration Minister, Jason Kenney, issued a special 'ministerial permit' to get the family out of Pakistan, because there were 'significant difficulties' involved in getting them out of that lovely, tolerant place.

The Cold War was an attempt, using every means possible, by the United States and its allies in North America and Western Europe, along with other countries that had their own reasons for joining in, to prevent the expansion of Soviet power through military means or through other means, including the spread of the ideology of Communism. That Cold War began after World War II, even though from the earliest days of the Bolsheviks it had always been clear to some that Soviet Communism was inherently expansionist, totalitarian, and aggressive, and lasted until the time of Gorbachev, when the rulers of the Soviet Union conceded that on its own terms Communism had not delivered the goods, had failed. Then Yeltsin, in almost a stupor, allowed most of the Soviet 'republics' to leave the Soviet Union, thus putting an end to the Soviet Empire and reducing it to 'nash dom' -- that is, the House of Russia and, as English estate agents like to say, messuage.

The two sides to the Cold War -- an economic and propagandistic component, and a military component -- can both be seen in the two developments that mark it at the beginning. In the late 1940s, the American government conceived and implemented a plan to revive the broken economies of the war-ravaged countries of Western Europe, and to do so with a transfer of economic aid, much of it administered by Americans on the spot, and technical know-how. It was understood that the appeal of Communism was very strong. In the late 1940s and 1950s the Communists formed the largest political group in both France and Italy, and that both improvements in the local economies and a propaganda war would be necessary. The aid flowed, and the economies slowly revived. And at the same time, there was targeted aid to certain newspapers (such as Der Monat in West Germany) and to political parties (such as the Christian Democrats in Italy) known to oppose the Communists. The Soviet Communists were not idle. Their theme was 'peace' -- which was opposed only by those war-profiteering capitalists who needed interminable conflict to keep churning out and using up their weaponry, while the Soviet Union, with that mild-mannered shy and retiring, earnestly pacifist Lover of Peace Joseph Stalin as its benevolent, twinkly-eyed leader, was so much for peace that it would set up the World Peace Council to organize festivals, usually but not always in Helsinki, with propaganda posters by the leftist likes of Picasso (who during the war and Nazi Occupation of Paris had not lifted a finger to save the life of his 'godchild' Max Jacob from death at Drancy, and thought nothing of inviting German officers into his studio on Quai des Grands Augustins to see his latest works, and they would bring him steaks and other luxuries available only to the Germans).

Along with Peace, the other great theme of Soviet propaganda was Colonialism, An End To. Since the main colonial powers were Great Britain and France, the most important allies of the United States, taking the side of all those seeking to be independent -- ready or not, and no matter what the outcome -- was a way to profitably exploit what was seen, too easily, as on-the-side-of-the-angels decolonialism. Furthermore, this was said to be the Side of History. The 'winds of change' were blowing, said Harold Macmillan, and no one could stop it. It was not the Soviet Marxists who were the only determinists. Though a grouping of countries in Africa and Asia and Latin America became known as the Non-Aligned, those Non-Aligned, in solemn conclave assembled at Bandung or elsewhere, always seemed to pass resolutions against the West for its supposed machinations. But the machinations that counted were those of the Soviets and their collaborators, who manipulated these gatherings for their own ends. The Non-Aligned never seemed to worry about the Soviet Union, or about the new and unfamiliar kind of 'colonialism' (therefore not recognized as such) that the Soviets practiced in Eastern Europe.

The Nonaligned Nations became, over time, what was called the Third World, and the playing off of the United States and the Soviet Union, or the invocation of the threat of now one, and now the other, allowed countries that were in fact always playing their own game to obtain aid, and then still more aid from the other side, in a bidding war for political affections. Unlike the economic aid given to the countries of Western Europe, countries that were part of the West, much of the economic aid given to countries outside that historic West was misused, or appropriated by local rulers, or spent on inappropriate projects. But this does not take away from the achievements of the original Marshall Plan, even as it should make one wary of invoking that Plan -- as so many Muslim leaders, from Al-Jaafari (who preceded Al-Maliki) to Karzai, to Zardari, or their associates do. They fondly think they can inveigle still more money out of the by-now disabused Americans for a 'Muslim Marshall Plan' that makes no sense, unless one really believes that 'poverty' and 'joblessness,' and not Islam itself, are the cause of Muslim economic backwardness and, especially, the cause of Muslim hostility to Infidels, including the Infidel Americans.

At the same time as the American government was implementing the Marshall Plan, it also created and largely funded a military alliance, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, that remains till now the chief and still the only effective military alliance that unites the advanced countries of the historic West. The NATO alliance, along with a series of American bases, helped deter further Soviet military penetration into Western Europe, and possibly stopped the Red Army from entering Yugoslavia when Tito became too independent of Soviet commands. American and NATO forces went to war in Korea to halt North Korean, and implicitly Chinese Communist, aggression. Members of NATO also undertook on their own to suppress revolts connected to the Communists: the British aid to the Greek government in the late 1940s, and in Malaya in the early 1950s, were directed at groups that were thought to be allied to Communists, including those in the Soviet Union.

The war in Korea did save South Korea for the West, and by comparing South Korea today with North Korea, one might draw some conclusions about a Communist dictatorship and a relatively free capitalist society.

How was the Cold War won? Some say it was this, and some say that. Some point to the Marshall Plan. Some point to NATO. Some say it was Lech Walesa and Solidarnosc. Some say it was Ronald Reagan, and his spending on defense that forced the Soviet Union into an arms race it could not, in the end, finance. Some say it was Pope John Paul II.

But it was not one of these men, nor a single event or series of events.

Communism failed in the Soviet Union because it could not deliver. And instead of continuing to believe the stories that the stage of Communism had not yet been reached, and so it would be unfair and premature to judge Communism a failure, too many of those in the know, and in the Party itself, or close to those in the Party, realized that Communism was a political, economic, and moral disaster. Gorbachev himself, for example, had in the early 1950s roomed with a Czech student at MGU (Moscow State University) who took a dim view of Communism, and who apparently made a deep impression on Gorbachev. Another factor, one which I have not seen mentioned, is the influence of the children of the Party elite on their own parents. Many of these children attended universities or institutes with others who were not the children of the Party elite but were among the most intelligent and morally aware of Russians. These people had been chosen to go to certain Institutes because of their intelligence, while the children of the Party elite might get into the same Institutes because of their families. Sometimes the two groups overlapped. Gradually, the very people who ran the Party, and hence the Soviet Union, could no longer deny that Communism could not deliver and that it was based on an economic theory that did not fit the case, and that something had to be done if the constituent republics of the SSSR, and if Russia itself, were to be saved. A few farseeing souls, such as the late Alexander Yakovlev, an adviser to Gorbachev, also were more than mere political advisers but also provided a kind of moral guidance that led, in the end, to a willingness to admit that the system, as constituted, had not worked.

Now the United States is the leader of a group of nations that are threatened in different ways by those employing different weapons, but animated by an ideology that in many respects, in its claim to regulate every area of life, may be called totalitarian, and that has hundreds of millions, indeed more than a billion, of claimed adherents. Those adherents control and dominate a large part of the world, and are moving aggressively, in every way they can, to make the rest of us, those who do not share that ideology, concede to their demands, and to make the world safe for the adherents of that ideology to work to remove all obstacles to its spread and then to its dominance. That ideology, with its Complete Explanation of the Universe (an explanation even more far-reaching than Communism, that limited itself to the sphere of economics relations and its natural epiphenomena) and its Total Regulation of Life, has a remarkable hold on the minds of its adherents. And unlike Communism, there is no one thing that Islam must deliver to prove itself. It is multidimensional and hydra-headed, and there is no one thing, no one failure, that would lead its adherents to question, much less abandon it.

But that does not mean that in this new Cold War -- like the old Cold War, one that has a military component -- that the forces of the advanced West cannot supplement military measures with others, in the realm of propaganda. So far that propaganda war has not been fought, and it cannot be fought, as long as we all pretend that there is nothing wrong with Islam. For if we all pretend that there is nothing wrong with Islam, but only with some 'violent extremists' -- whose ideology is never differentiated from the standard teachings to be found in Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira, of mainstream Muslims who are not 'violent extremists.' We continue to tell the world's Muslims how much we hold them and their faith in high esteem, what a splendid faith it is, and what enormous good it has done for the world and, by the way, how welcoming we are, and wish to continue to be, to the Muslims in our midst who, incidentally, are doing splendidly, and fitting right in, and there's not a problem in the world with having Muslims in our midst, for they are, ca va sans dire, perfectly capable of being loyal (Americans, Canadians, British, French, Germans, Dutch, Danish, Australians -- fill in the Western country of your choice here). And anyone who dares to even hint otherwise must surely be a bigot, to be consigned to the outer darkness.

There is little need in this new Cold War for much military action. No need for a Korean War. Certainly there was no need for the large-scale interventions in Iraq and now Afghanistan. In-and-out movements of special forces, the extensive use of air power (including drones and missiles as well as planes), should be enough to control the various bases of various groups of 'violent extremists.' Only one thing requires more than small-scale but constant attack: the attempt by various Muslim states to acquire weapons of mass destruction. Again and again Muslim leaders have spoken about the need to acquire weapons technology. When Mahathir Mohamed, then the outgoing head of the O.I.C., spoke to assembled Muslim leaders a few years ago, he did not mention the need for Muslims to catch up in pure science. It was a matter of indifference to him that Muslim contributions to science have been practically non-existent for the past thousand years. He was not interested in Muslims having little to do with studying DNA, or elementary particle physics, or any other branch of science or technology save one: military weaponry. There he was interested. There he was deeply concerned. And if one views, for example, the videotapes (to be found online at YouTube) of such well-known Muslim apologists as 'Dr.' Zakir Naik, one finds him asserting that the Muslim world is superior in every sense to the non-Muslim world but, Dr. Naik allows, it is willing to receive training in (military) technology from that non-Muslim Western world, almost as if such willingness were a kind of favor bestowed by Muslims on non-Muslims.

We all know that the 'Islamic bomb' of Pakistan -- the sole reason for the American government to worry about Pakistan at all -- was a result not of unaided Pakistani scientific achievement, but in the first and main place, the result of Western negligence, that allowed a Pakistani metallurgist, working in the West, to place himself where he could steal nuclear secrets from Western labs. And that is exactly what he did. And the criminal negligence of the West in this affair was compounded by the vast sums given by the American government to Pakistan that allowed that government to pay for its very expensive nuclear-weapons project. And the project of the Islamic Republic of Iran has required expertise. That expertise was acquired by Iranians studying, in large part, in the universities and laboratories of the West, both before Khomeini came to power thirty years ago, and well after. It was not understood until the day before yesterday that Muslims have received their training in the non-Muslim West and are then using that training in ways that contribute to the threat to that same West, and such a sharing of knowledge, and expertise, is now -- and was twenty or thirty years ago -- unacceptable. Why, even the female scientists who worked for Saddam Hussein, specialists in biological and chemical warfare, had studied in Great Britain. That folly, if it hasn't been ended, has now to be ended. And the same vigilance, and same prohibitions must be extended, beyond the Muslim nationals of Islam-dominated states, to Muslims who live in, and may even be citizens of, Western countries. As long as Islam inculcates the idea of loyalty owed to Islam, we understand that this loyalty will be acted on and that it would be far too risky to put our faith in protestations of loyalty by Muslims to whatever Infidel nation-state they live in. In this new Cold War, the denial of technological know-how, and the refusal to transfer advanced technology to the Muslim states, will do the job, and hot wars, and invasions, are not necessary.

There are two exceptions. One is Pakistan, where nuclear weapons have been acquired, but those nuclear weapons must be vigilantly kept from being transferred out of the country, and to the extent possible, Pakistan not allowed to acquire the means to deliver, against its enemies, such weaponry. The second is the Islamic Republic of Iran (not to be confused with Iran), that is working busily, seemingly unstoppable in its march to acquire nuclear-weapons capability. The farce of the last few years, a farce correctly seen as such by a farsighted few, and now it seems by almost everyone and his brother (but do everyone and his brother have the will to do something about it?), has now played out. The United States, as a great power, has a responsibility to deal with Iran's nuclear project efficaciously and quickly, and that will require military action. It will not require an 'invasion.' It will not require anything like the resources spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. It need not take as its goal something impossible: the complete and total and final destruction of Iran's nuclear capacity. But enough damage can be inflicted to set a tottering regime back, by many years. When Israel bombed Iraq's nuclear reactor, Saddam Hussein did not start up his nuclear project for another twenty years, and even then it was not a full-throated attempt. He knew the Israelis were watching. And the Islamic Republic of Iran, for all of its bravado, will, if an attack is carried out and much of its nuclear project destroyed, hesitate for a long time before starting it up again, whatever it now says. For a clear indication, by the American government, and its allies, that it is willing, when necessary, to use force to stop such a project, will be a lesson not lost on the Islamic Republic. It might, for a week or a month or even a few months, manage to conduct a Rally-Round-the-Flag exploitation of such an attack, but in the end, the display of impotence will do much to push the Islamic Republic over the abyss toward which its own actions, and the growing strength of the opposition, is taking it. But if it were ever to successfully acquire nuclear weapons, the pride among the primitive villagers in Iran, who outnumber the advanced people in the opposition, would be so great as to make it impossible to dislodge the current regime.

The American government, in concert with other Western governments, was fully capable of acting militarily against far more threatening and powerful enemies. When the Americans went to war in Korea, the Soviet Union had nuclear weapons. Some of those weapons might have been transferred to Communist China, and then to North Korea. What, after all, did North Korea have to lose? But the Americans went ahead anyway. In Vietnam, the Americans never knew if the Communist Chinese might send a few million men southward. They never did, but they could have. A Iranian regime that has had to raise the prices on staples (angering the populace) and that relies for its survival on the Revolutionary Guard storm-troopers who act against students, including the children of former high officials in the very same ruling regime and, indeed, against that part of the Iranian population which thinks, and in its own neighborhood, has alarmed practically everyone, and not just uber-Sunni Saudi Arabia. What's more, it has shown that it is willing, through its agents and collaborators, to behave viciously everywhere it can, even as far away as Buenos Aires, and there are many other attacks. Many are not publicly attributed to Iran, but its involvement is strongly suggested.

The other part of the Cold War -- the propaganda part that was fought -- does not yet have an analogue in the war being fought, without a declaration of such a war (which is understandable) but even, alas, without a recognition of the nature of the war now being waged on us, but that many are still too tongue-tied or inhibited to discuss, even obliquely, metonymically. That propaganda during the Cold War was directed at two different audiences. The first was behind the Iron Curtain. To that audience, through Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty, and all sorts of publishing ventures, the American government provided material of many different kinds. It published émigré writers, and had those writers broadcast on Radio Liberty, or Radio Free Europe, to show that outside the confines of Communism, Russian and Polish and Czech and Bulgarian and other writers, even in their exile, had managed to continue their work, and some of that work was even about the miseries of totalitarianism. News stories about Western achievements were contrasted with stories about repeated failures -- crop failures, technical failures, failures of every kind in the Communist world -- were also beamed into the satellite nations and the Soviet Union. Special attention was given to those who had, like Arthur Koestler and others who contributed to 'The God That Failed,' once been Communists, even fanatical Communists, but had managed to grasp the nature of the system and to fight their way out of it, and to become its most cogent because most knowledgeable critics.

And the other audience to which American and other Western propaganda was aimed, was those in the West who might have been most vulnerable to the siren-song of Communism, or Marxist-Leninism, or whatever it called itself. This audience included not only members of the Communist Parties in the Western world, but also those who, as members of left-leaning parties, were deemed in some cases insufficiently vigilant about Communist influence and Communist propaganda. It was understood that Soviet propaganda was clever, not clumsy, and that it would take an effort to counter it -- one directed in the main by those who were advised by, or themselves had been, refugees from Soviet Communism, from the Soviet Union or from the Soviet-controlled nations.

Where is such a propaganda effort today? Who are the analogues of those refugees from Communism, from the world of Islam? And up till now, what has the American government done about disseminating, not behind some Iron Curtain, but simply by all the means now so widely available -- radio, satellite television, the Internet, audiocassettes and videotapes -- news about Islam's failures, or the failures of states where Islam rules? How many Muslims have been told, again and again, about how much money the Muslim members of OPEC have taken in, and how little they have managed to do with it, save spend it on armaments, and luxury goods, and palaces, and every sort of decadence that goes far beyond anything the non-Islamic rich are known to routinely indulge in? How many Muslims have listened, in broadcasts from abroad, to economists discuss the economic performance of Muslim states, compared to non-Muslim states, and discussions of the reasons for this -- the inshallah-fatalism, and the hatred of bid'a (innovation)? How many programs do you know of where the moral failures of Islam are discussed, discussed regularly, not intermittently, by the likes of Wafa Sultan and Ayaan Hirsi Ali?

The nature and lineaments of this propaganda war, a war that more than eight years after the attacks of 9/11/2001 still does not exist, will be the subject of another article. This one has gone on for you, long-suffering reader, long enough.

News of the recent financial meltdown of Dubai World -- a quasi-sovereign global concern that owns 77 percent of the international port manager DP World and the single largest real estate developer in Dubai known for its palm-tree shaped luxury residential developments -- raced from the business pages to the headlines of the front pages in a matter of days.

Since the first reports on Thanksgiving, the Wall Street Journal and just about every other major media outlet reported extensively on the worldwide implications of this latest financial shock wave.

What makes this story more than simply one of a massive real estate investment company gone bad is the double-edged sword so prevalent in the chase for oil-based Middle East wealth: Sovereign wealth funds and Shariah-compliant finance.

Beginning in the 1970s with the Carter-era oil embargo and accelerating during the post-9/11 $100+ oil price spikes, Persian Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates' wealthiest city-state of Abu Dhabi have been awash in liquidity. And, these trillion-dollar cash reserves are controlled in every case by the respective royal families, typically in sovereign or quasi-sovereign wealth funds.

Another phenomenon that followed the great oil rush of the post-9/11 era was the promotion and aggressive exportation of the Muslim Brotherhood doctrine of SCF.

The concept of SCF was articulated by men like Sayyid Qutb of Egypt and Abul Ala Maududi of Pakistan in the mid-20th century, both of whom argued for a Jihad against Westernization, and the creation of Islamic polities that would ultimately join in a hegemonic worldwide caliphate. The goal was that of establishing Shariah not merely as the supreme law of the land, but as the supreme law of the world.

In the post-9/11 era, Western imams and their infidel advisers in business suits speaking the queen's English have understood that given the global Jihad's reliance on the dictates of Shariah to murder apostates and to terrorize the infidels into submission, SCF must be attired in a kind of progressive Western garb to attract the attention of the financial centers in London, Hong Kong and New York.

So it was that SCF became known as 'ethical investing' and Western and Muslim financiers began lecturing the world that the fraud and abuse of the financial markets, such as the Enron debacle and more recently the subprime securitization meltdown, were all driven by the desire for forbidden gain through interest and gambling.

They told us that SCF was based not on forbidden interest and speculative paper assets, but profits through equity participation and sound investing in real assets.

Dubai World, a company wholly owned by the Dubai sovereign has funded itself through debt to the tune of $60 billion. The Dubai debt now in default just happens to be SCF bonds, or 'sukuk.'

These bonds pay interest just like their forbidden cousins in the Western markets, but the interest is put into a black box of Shariah-created fictions and 'special purpose vehicles' to keep the forbidden interest off the books.

What we now see as a real estate bubble collapse in Dubai is no different and no more or less ethical than any other financial failure. But, what makes this collapse so problematic is precisely what makes SCF and sovereign wealth funds so dangerous....

Actually they're -- you guessed it! -- whining about a possible 'backlash.' This whole article is absurd, however, since Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab did not try to blow up Flight 253 because he was Nigerian, but because he was Muslim and believed it his religious duty to wage war against Infidels. But apparently the Times was tired of writing about fears of a backlash against Muslims when one never materializes, and so they gave a new twist to an old story angle by worrying about a backlash against Nigerians instead. The Muslim angle does come in, but not until late in the story.

DETROIT -- When news broke on Christmas Day that a young Nigerian man had been arrested in a thwarted terrorist attack aboard a jetliner bound for the airport here, Joseph Ajiri, a Nigerian-born entrepreneur who lives in the suburb of Oak Park, was tucking into steaming servings of foofoo, moi-moi and other traditional Nigerian dishes with about a dozen friends and relatives.

Edwin Dyke, founder of the Nigerian Foundation of Michigan, said, 'This isn't like our people.'

'We just had some people here for Christmas dinner, then all of a sudden this comes on TV,' Mr. Ajiri said. 'It was regretful that he was Nigerian, but that didn't make us any more angry. We were all very happy that the explosion didn't take place, that he wasn't successful.'...

'We want to tell Homeland Security and the federal government that we are sorry about what happened,' Dr. Dyke said, 'that this isn't like our people, that we believe this is an isolated incident but that we will keep our ears open.'...

Salewa Ola, a Nigerian who founded the Detroit-based United African Community Organization, emphasized that the plane attack was 'not what our community stands for.'

'We are shocked and embarrassed,' Dr. Ola said. 'This has given all of us a black eye.'

Relatives have said that Mr. Abdulmutallab, who is from a Muslim family, was particularly devout, even as a child.

But that tells us nothing, eh?

Twenty percent of Nigerians living in Michigan are Muslim, Dr. Dyke said. But Kamol Bello, a Detroit resident who is a Nigerian Muslim and has lived in the United States for 20 years, was quick to disassociate the religion from what occurred on Flight 253 on Christmas Day.

'A truly religious person would not do that,' Mr. Bello said, adding that Muslims he knew did not think Mr. Abdulmutallab 'is Muslim or Christian because no true religion teaches' someone to ignite an explosive aboard a plane.

'That's just crazy ideology,' Mr. Bello said.

All right, Mr. Bello. Then how did Abdulmutallab, a devout Muslim since childhood, misunderstand Islam so drastically? And what are you doing to prevent such misunderstandings in the future?

Even so, Mr. Ajiri and several other Nigerians living in and around Detroit said they expected prejudicial fallout from the attack and from an incident on the same flight two days later in which a Nigerian man spent a long time in the plane's lavatory, arousing the suspicion of fellow passengers, flight attendants and an air marshal and setting off security alerts as the plane landed. It turned out that the man had simply been ill.

'Profiling? When you look at 9/11 and what happened with the Arabic community, we cannot expect anything different,' Mr. Ajiri said. 'It is just unfortunate that one individual is going to ruin reputations for the rest of the Nigerians. When we travel now, the system will make us pay, and I don't feel good about it.'...

Lekan Oguntoyinbo, a Nigerian who used to live in Detroit and now lives in Columbia, Mo., said Mr. Abdulmutallab's nationality would heighten suspicions of all Nigerians.

'Nigerians have had a horrible reputation with the authorities of this country for importing drugs and for things like Internet fraud,' said Mr. Oguntoyinbo, an assistant professor of journalism at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. 'I think this incident on Christmas not only makes us incredibly more suspect, but also positions Nigerians as enemies of the state. When you're trying to blow up a plane, the dynamics of perception change a great deal.'...

The vast majority of women in Gaza face violence of varying types, a new survey has found.

The study, by the Gaza-based Palestinian Women's Information and Media Center, found that violence against women in Gaza has increased since Hamas took over the Gaza Strip in the June 2007 coup and Israel subsequently imposed restrictions on the coastal enclave.

The study found that 77.1% of Gazan women have experienced violence of various sorts, with almost half experiencing violence of more than one type.

A quarter of the women said they do not feel safe in their own homes because of violence and more than a third said they were unable to fight back as they had more urgent priorities to deal with.

7% of the women surveyed said they had encountered verbal violence, 71% mental violence, 52% physical violence and more than 14% sexual violence.

'I think the levels [of violence] are higher than they were in the Gaza Strip in previous years and compared to other countries, the rates are certainly higher,' Huda Hamouda, Director of the PWIC told The Media Line. 'It's hard to imagine a family living in dignity when seven family members are living on less than three dollars a day.'

'Many say they suffer from disrespect and deprecation,' Hamouda said. 'There's also domestic violence, which is committed by relatives such as the father, the brother or the husband.'

Even this, Hamouda tries to pin on Israel. But it wasn't Israel who put verse 4:34 in the Qur'an; there are also similar statistics for domestic abuse elsewhere in the Muslim world. Did Israel do that, too?

Joe Lieberman was right to sound the alarm about Yemen in the wake of
the Undy-Bomber's Christmas Day terror attack over American skies. But
he was wrong to call it "tomorrow's war." The Yemen-based jihadist
network has been at war with us for years -- since before the Iraq and
Afghanistan invasions, since before Sept. 11 and well before our
current commander in chief had begun his vaunted work as a community
organizer.

The
bleeding-heart ostriches of the left are blaming (who else?) cowboy
George W. Bush for radicalizing poor, oppressed Yemenis. But the killer
fruits of botched bomber Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab's loom have nothing
to do with poverty, social injustice, Western imperialism or Bush
Derangement Syndrome. The fundamentalist Muslim is the privileged son
of a Nigerian public official. He lived a "gilded life," as the
Independent of London described it, studying engineering at one of
Britain's most prestigious universities before training for terror in
Yemen.

Media
sympathizers have spotlighted Abdulmutallab's web postings bemoaning
his "loneliness." But more compassion and empathy -- the remedy Barack
Obama prescribed in an infamously clueless Chicago community newspaper
op-ed after the Sept. 11 attacks -- are useless salves to the
terrorist's damned soul. Like so many of his wealthy, educated jihad
brothers and sisters before him, from Osama bin Laden to Khalid Sheikh
Mohammed to Fort Hood mass killer Nidal Hasan, M.D., Abdulmutallab
targeted us for who we are -- dirty, unbelieving infidels -- not
anything we've denied him.

And
for his failed act of self-eunuchery and mass murder, the

Abdulmutallab as a "hero."

Another
of these "heroes" in Yemen is Jamal Muhammad Ahmad Al Badawi, the
convicted mastermind of the U.S.S. Cole bombing that took the lives of
17 American sailors in October 2000. Despite being sentenced to the
death penalty, escaping twice from jail and being indicted in the U.S.
on terrorism charges, the Yemeni government freed him in 2007 in
exchange for a promise that he renounce his old infidel-murdering ways.
More than two dozen of Badawi's jailbreak buddies, including bin
Laden's former secretary, Nasir al-Wahayshi, reunited to form the
jihadi training team that now claims it supplied Abdulmutallab with his
incendiary device.

A Christian girl was kidnapped
by an Islamic group while at university. The girl, Sarah Edmond
Youhanna, attended the first year of the faculty of education at the
University of Mosul. The kidnapping occurred on 28 December. The
kidnappers had telephoned the family of the girl and said they were
members of an Islamic group.

The police have opened an investigation and arrested some
students.

The event has spread an atmosphere of panic among the many
Christian girls who attend the university. In the past, Islamist
groups have attacked Christian college girls throwing acid on them
because they were wearing makeup or not wearing the veil.

Over the past two months in Mosul four churches and a convent of
Dominican nuns have been targeted in attacks, several Christian and
Muslim homes have been destroyed. Five Christians have been murdered,
others are victims of kidnappings. According to the Christian
authorities such attacks are targeted and are part of a project of
"ethnic cleansing" against the Christian community throughout Iraq.

Is anyone really surprised to discover that Umar Farouk Abdul
Mutallab, the 23-year-old Detroit bomber, was involved in radical
Islamic politics while a student in London? For the sad truth is that
we now live in a country where we appear to be more concerned with
defending the rights of radical extremists to express themselves than
protecting the rights of ordinary, law-abiding citizens to live in
peace and security.

Even though Abdulmutallab is not even a British citizen, he was
still allowed to be elected president of the Islamic Society at
University College London (UCL), where he was then allowed to arrange
debates on subjects such as Guantanamo Bay and “Jihad v Terrorism”. No
points for guessing which side Abdulmutallab was on. Can you imagine a
British student going to Pakistan or Saudi Arabia, getting elected head
of the local Christian Union, and then arranging a series of debates on
the need to launch a new Crusade against the Islamic world?

But then the fact that a foreign, radical Islamist student is
allowed to conduct himself in this manner is symptomatic of how Britain
has completely lost all sense of proportion in confronting the modern
menace posed by Islamic extremism. Rather than denying extremists the
platform to promulgate their hateful doctrines, the authorities bend
over backwards to afford them freedom of speech.

Hence, at a time when British Muslims are known to be providing the
Taliban with bomb-making equipment to blow up British soldiers in
Helmand, our mainstream broadcasters seem obsessed with allegations
made by the former Guantanamo detainee Moazzem Begg – who himself is
not a British citizen – that he was tortured by British intelligence
officers during his interrogation.

It is easy to imagine that the authorities at UCL took quiet pride
in the fact that they had a radical Nigerian Muslim running their
Islamic Society. You can’t get more politically correct than that? >>>

Consideration of objection to subpoena

On Wednesday, January 13, 2010 the Amsterdam court will deal with the appeal against the summons to Mr. Wilders. He takes the view that he should not have to be summoned by the Public Prosecutor [OM, “Openbaar Ministerie”] for the facts that are charged against him. The law states that the treatment of such objection must be made behind closed doors, therefore this session is not open to the press and public.

If the objection to the subpoena is declared inadmissible or unfounded, then a directional hearing will follow on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. That session will start at 09.00 hours and takes place in the Amsterdam court, Parnassusweg 220, Tower E [“Toren E”].

If the objection to the subpoena is (or is in part) upheld, then by law the Amsterdam Court will have to give an opinion as soon as possible on the decision of the court. It is then uncertain whether the directional hearing will continue on January 20.

Being constrained by the Fourth Amendment, FOIA, and other limitations of the Constitution and federal law that protect the liberty and privacy of Americans is what prevents law-enforcement and its controlling government authority from becoming tyrannical.

On Wednesday, however, for no apparent reason, President Obama issued an executive order removing the Reagan limitations. That is, Interpol’s property and assets are no longer subject to search and confiscation, and its archives are now considered inviolable. This international police force (whose U.S. headquarters is in the Justice Department in Washington) will be unrestrained by the U.S. Constitution and American law while it operates in the United States and affects both Americans and American interests outside the United States.

Interpol works closely with international tribunals (such as the International Criminal Court — which the United States has refused to join because of its sovereignty-surrendering provisions, though top Obama officials want us in it). It also works closely with foreign courts and law-enforcement authorities (such as those in Europe that are investigating former Bush administration officials for purported war crimes — i.e., for actions taken in America’s defense).

Why would we elevate an international police force above American law? Why would we immunize an international police force from the limitations that constrain the FBI and other American law-enforcement agencies?

Why, indeed?

Here’s one possible explanation: Interpol is acting as the international enforcement arm of the terrorist regime known as the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Agents for the mullahs would not enjoy the esteem and confidence of the average American citizen (or law enforcement officer), so granting them immunity is a necessary step that will allow them to operate efficiently and effectively on American territory. The Obama administration has been doing its best to suck up to Tehran, and the immunization of Interpol looks to be part and parcel of the program.

Iran Puts Ten Swedes on Interpol Wanted List

Ten Swedes of Iranian descent are named on Interpol’s list of criminals wanted for terrorism and international organized crime.

The men, all of whom hail from Iran’s Kurdistan province, came to Sweden as political refugees twenty years ago, the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper reports.

Despite being active critics of the Iranian regime for more than thirty years, the men’s names and pictures only recently appeared on Interpol’s list of wanted fugitives, following a request from Iran.

“I was obviously surprised that Interpol would simply describe us using the same words as the Iranian police. It seems very strange to me,” Khaled Haji Mohammadi, one of the men now labeled as a fugitive by Interpol, told The Local.

Mohammadi is one of twelve members of the Worker-Communist Party of Iran — Hekmatist whose names were posted on the Interpol list.

“I don’t know what sort of political or economic agreement Iran may have with Interpol, but it’s very surprising that Interpol would abide by the demands of a request from a regime that has executed so many of its critics.”

Mohammadi doesn’t deny he has long been critical of the Islamic regime in Iran, which he claims has imprisoned and killed many fellow activists in the years since he left the country to seek political asylum in Sweden.

“I’m used to being harassed and criticized by the Islamic regime in Iran,” he said.

But Interpol’s decision to agree to Iran’s request to list him and his colleagues as organized criminals and terrorists left him puzzled.

While Mohammadi has no plans to back down from supporting human and workers’ rights in Iran, he remains concerned that by enlisting a respected international policing body, Iran may add legitimacy to its claims.

“Obviously it’s a problem because it’s Interpol,” he said.

“No one cares what Iran says, but if it’s on Interpol, that’s something different.”

Mohammadi has long been in the crosshairs of the Iranian authorities, having supported a number of pro-human rights campaigns over the years, most recently spearheading a campaign to support student demonstrators who clashed with authorities in 2007.

He suspects that the regime in Iran, under mounting pressure from demonstrators within the country, sees Interpol warrants as a new avenue for silencing its critics.

“One way they think they can stop demonstrations in Iran is to target well known activists,” Mohammadi explained.

“If the Iranian regime succeeds in doing something against such popular rights activists, then perhaps the people fighting for freedom in Iran will get scared.”

He also wondered why Iran chose him and his colleagues to appear on Interpol’s wanted list.

“I’m not exactly sure why they chose us here in Sweden. There are critics of the regime in Iran in a number of western countries,” he said.

“I guess they had to start somewhere.”

If Iran succeeds in extraditing any of the men currently listed on Interpol’s list, Mohammadi fears it may embolden the regime to put more names up the list.

“At this point, Interpol is responsible for what happens next,” he said, adding that he remains skeptical that any extraditions will actually take place

“I think people and authorities around the world are smarter than that,” he said.

So far Swedish authorities have not acted on the warrants.

According to chief public prosecutor Tomas Lindstrand, simply issuing a warrant isn’t enough to justify launching an investigation, explaining that his office would only get involved if Swedish police believe the country issuing the warrant has enough evidence to prove the case is worth pursuing.

“Then we’ll see what the Iranians want. It’s usually the case that to get people extradited to sue them, or in a request for legal assistance, that we question the people involved and so on,” he told DN.

Arezo Julie Jacobsson, a lawyer leading efforts to help Mohammadi and his colleagues clear their names, also believed Iran’s decision to issue warrants was a scare tactic meant to silence its critics.

She too was critical of Interpol for publishing the men’s names at Iran’s request and vowed to explore all available legal options to have the names removed.

“They feel offended and want to do everything they can to fix this,” she told DN.

Mohammadi said it would likely “take some time” but is hopeful his name will eventually be removed from the Interpol wanted list.

In the meantime, he has no plans for cutting back on his efforts supporting Iranian activists fighting for their rights.

“I’ve been active and will continue to be active defending human rights in Iran,” he said.

In an open letter to Interpol dated December 21st, the Worker-Communist Party of Iran — Hekmatist said it was shocked by the inclusion on Interpol’s list of members who were “all veteran and popular political activists and respected figures within the Iranian opposition movement.

“They are all recognised political refugees and are engaged in open, public and transparent political activities against the Iranian government. […] We believe you should remove this list and your call immediately,” the party wrote.

A man tried to board a commercial airliner in Mogadishu last month carrying powdered chemicals, liquid and a syringe that could have caused an explosion in a case bearing chilling similarities to the terrorist plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The Somali man – whose name has not yet been released – was arrested by African Union peacekeeping troops before the Nov. 13 Daallo Airlines flight took off. It had been scheduled to travel from Mogadishu to the northern Somali city of Hargeisa, then to Djibouti and Dubai. A Somali police spokesman, Abdulahi Hassan Barise, said the suspect is in Somali custody.

“We don’t know whether he’s linked with al-Qaida or other foreign organizations, but his actions were the acts of a terrorist. We caught him red-handed,” said Barise.

A Nairobi-based diplomat said the incident in Somalia is similar to the attempted attack on the Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day in that the Somali man had a syringe, a bag of powdered chemicals and liquid – tools similar to those used in theDetroit attack. The diplomat spoke on condition he not be identified because he isn’t authorized to release the information.

Barigye Bahoku, the spokesman for the African Union military force in Mogadishu, said the chemicals from the Somali suspect could have caused an explosion that would have caused air decompression inside the plane. However, Bahoku said he doesn’t believe an explosion would have brought the plane down.

A second international official familiar with the incident, also speaking on condition of anonymity because he isn’t authorized to discuss the case, confirmed that the substances carried by the Somali passenger could have been used as an explosive device.

In the Detroit case, alleged attacker Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab hid explosive PETN in a condom or condom-like bag just below his torso when he traveled from Amsterdam toDetroit . Like the captured Somali, Abdulmutallab also had a syringe filled with liquid. The substances seized from the Somali passenger are being tested.

The November incident garnered little attention before the Dec. 25 attack aboard a flight on final approach to Detroit. US officials have now learned of the Somali case and are hastening to investigate any possible links between it and the Detroit attack, though no officials would speak on the record about the probe.

US investigators said Abdulmutallab told them he received training and instructions from al-Qaida operatives in Yemen – which lies across the Gulf of Aden from Somalia. Similarly, large swaths of Somalia are controlled by an insurgent group, al-Shabab, which has ties to al-Qaida.

Western officials say many of the hundreds of foreign jihadi fighters in Somalia come in small boats across the Gulf of Aden from Yemen. The officials also say that examination of equipment used in some Somali suicide attacks leads them to believe it was originally assembled in Yemen.

Law enforcement officials believe the suspect in the Detroit incident tried to ignite a two-part concoction of the high explosive PETN and possibly a glycol-based liquid explosive, setting off popping, smoke and some fire but no deadly detonation. Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian national, is charged with trying to destroy an aircraft.

A Somali security official involved in the capture of the suspect in Mogadishu said he had a 1-kilogram (2.2-pound) package of chemical powder and a container of liquid chemicals. The security official said the suspect was the last passenger to try to board.

Once security officials detected the powder chemicals and syringe, the suspect tried to bribe the security team that detained him, the Somali security official said. The security official said the suspect had a white shampoo bottle with a black acid-like substance in it. He also had a clear plastic bag with a light green chalky substance and a syringe containing a green liquid. The security official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to release the information.

The powdered material had the strong scent of ammonia, Bahoku said, and samples have been sent to London for testing.

The Somali security officials said the Daallo Airlines flight was scheduled to go from Mogadishu to Hargeisa, to Djibouti and then to Dubai.

A spokeswoman for Daallo Airlines said that company officials weren’t aware of the incident and would have to seek more information before commenting. Daallo Airlines is based in Dubai and has offices in Djibouti and France.

Here is an excellent op-ed by the deputy foreign minister of Israel, Danny Ayalon that slays the myth about the 'occupation' of Judea and Samaria. There can be no doubt whatsoever about the legality of Israelis maintaining a presence inside the disputed territories, only those with an ideological axe to grind with Jews, claim otherwise.

The Tundra Tabloids has written on the subject repeatedly, Mr.Ayalon's words only serve to underline the TT's key positions; that Israel has every legal right to build homes, and operate check points and road blocks and manage the daily affairs in areas it deems necessary, until a time when the Arabs reject their rejectionism of the Jewish state, and end their disasterous war.

Read what other experts have said about the Disputed Territories. Only those who are either ignorant, or want to obfuscate the issues, will insist the areas of Judea and Samaria are 'occupied', and that Jews haven't a right to live there. KGS

Israel's Right to the 'Disputed' Territories

The recent statements by the European Union's new foreign relations chief Catherine Ashton criticizing Israel have once again brought international attention to Jerusalem and the settlements. However, little appears to be truly understood about Israel's rights to what are generally called the 'occupied territories' but what really are 'disputed territories'.

That's because the land now known as the West Bank cannot be considered 'occupied' in the legal sense of the word as it had not attained recognized sovereignty before Israel's conquest. Contrary to some beliefs there has never been a Palestinian state, and no other nation has ever established Jerusalem as its capital despite it being under Islamic control for hundreds of years.

The name 'West Bank' was first used in 1950 by the Jordanians when they annexed the land to differentiate it from the rest of the country, which is on the east bank of the river Jordan. The boundaries of this territory were set only one year before during the armistice agreement between Israel and Jordan that ended the war that began in 1948 when five Arab armies invaded the nascent Jewish State. It was at Jordan's insistence that the 1949 armistice line became not a recognized international border but only a line separating armies.

The Armistice Agreement specifically stated: 'No provision of this Agreement shall in any way prejudice the rights, claims, and positions of either Party hereto in the peaceful settlement of the Palestine questions, the provisions of this Agreement being dictated exclusively by military considerations.' (Italics added.) This boundary became the famous 'Green Line,' so named because the military officials during the armistice talks used a green pen to draw the line on the map.

After the Six Day War, when once again Arab armies sought to destroy Israel and the Jewish state subsequently captured the West Bank and other territory, the United Nations sought to create an enduring solution to the conflict. U.N. Security Council Resolution 242 is probably one of the most misunderstood documents in the international arena. While many, especially the Palestinians, push the idea that the document demands that Israel return everything captured over the Green Line, nothing could be further from the truth. The resolution calls for 'peace within secure and recognized boundaries,' but nowhere does it mention where those boundaries should be.

It is best to understand the intentions of the drafters of the resolution before considering other interpretations. Eugene V. Rostow, U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs in 1967 and a drafter of the resolution, stated in 1990: 'Security Council Resolution 242 and (subsequent U.N. Security Council Resolution) 338... rest on two principles, Israel may administer the territory until its Arab neighbors make peace; and when peace is made, Israel should withdraw to 'secure and recognized borders,' which need not be the same as the Armistice Demarcation Lines of 194.

Lord Caradon, the British U.N. Ambassador at the time and the resolution's main drafter who introduced it to the Council, said in 1974 unequivocally that, 'It would have been wrong to demand that Israel return to its positions of June 4, 1967, because those positions were undesirable and artificial.'

The U.S. ambassador to the U.N. at the time, former Supreme Court Justice Arthur Goldberg, made the issue even clearer when he stated in 1973 that, 'the resolution speaks of withdrawal from occupied territories without defining the extent of withdrawal.' This would encompass 'less than a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territory, inasmuch as Israel's prior frontiers had proven to be notably insecure.

Even the Soviet delegate to the U.N., Vasily Kuznetsov, who fought against the final text, conceded that the resolution gave Israel the right to 'withdraw its forces only to those lines it considers appropriate.

After the war in 1967, when Jews started returning to their historic heartland in the West Bank, or Judea and Samaria, as the territory had been known around the world for 2,000 years until the Jordanians renamed it, the issue of settlements arose. However, Rostow found no legal impediment to Jewish settlement in these territories. He maintained that the original British Mandate of Palestine still applies to the West Bank.

He said 'the Jewish right of settlement in Palestine west of the Jordan River, that is, in Israel, the West Bank, Jerusalem, was made unassailable. That right has never been terminated and cannot be terminated except by a recognized peace between Israel and its neighbors.' There is no internationally binding document pertaining to this territory that has nullified this right of Jewish settlement since.

And yet, there is this perception that Israel is occupying stolen land and that the Palestinians are the only party with national, legal and historic rights to it. Not only is this morally and factually incorrect, but the more this narrative is being accepted, the less likely the Palestinians feel the need to come to the negotiating table. Statements like those of Lady Ashton's are not only incorrect; they push a negotiated solution further away.

'Why Does Interpol Need Immunity from American Law?' is the question Andy McCarthy asks in commenting on the Executive Order that President Obama issued on December 17 to lift restraints on the international police agency. Andy goes on to describe these restraints first put in place in 1983 by President Reagan to bring Interpol under key aspects of American law when investigating Americans and American interests:

Specifically, Interpol's property and assets remained subject to search and seizure, and its archived records remained subject to public scrutiny under provisions like the Freedom of Information Act. Being constrained by the Fourth Amendment, FOIA, and other limitations of the Constitution and federal law that protect the liberty and privacy of Americans is what prevents law-enforcement and its controlling government authority from becoming tyrannical.

On Wednesday, however, for no apparent reason, President Obama issued an executive order removing the Reagan limitations. That is, Interpol's property and assets are no longer subject to search and confiscation, and its archives are now considered inviolable. This international police force (whose U.S. headquarters is in the Justice Department in Washington) will be unrestrained by the U.S. Constitution and American law while it operates in the United States and affects both Americans and American interests outside the United States.

Interpol works closely with international tribunals (such as the International Criminal Court — which the United States has refused to join because of its sovereignty-surrendering provisions, though top Obama officials want us in it). It also works closely with foreign courts and law-enforcement authorities (such as those in Europe that are investigating former Bush administration officials for purported war crimes — i.e., for actions taken in America's defense).

Why would we elevate an international police force above American law? Why would we immunize an international police force from the limitations that constrain the FBI and other American law-enforcement agencies? Why is it suddenly necessary to have, within the Justice Department, a repository for stashing government files which, therefore, will be beyond the ability of Congress, American law-enforcement, the media, and the American people to scrutinize?

This could be but one seemingly innocuous step toward getting us into the grips of the International Criminal Court at the Hague.



It is no secret that the Muslims swing a heavy hammer at the U.N. and in the Netherlands (a la Geert Wilders' legal problem). Slobodan Milosevic was tried, convicted and imprisoned by the International Court, if I recall correctly, for war crimes against Muslims in Bosnia, yes?



It's also no secret that the current U.S. adminstration, including the C.I.C., David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel, Eric Holder and the entire World of Islam are salivating at the thought of getting Cheney, Bush, the C.I.A., certain military personnel and others who are accused of torturing prisoners at Gitmo into criminal Court for prosecutions as war criminals.

I would note here that there is an answering geyser of slobber over this prospect on the mutliculturally orthodox Left.

If Obama and friends can pull off this little end run, incrementally, with no one objecting, all of them can eventually wash their hands of having to do the dirty work of investigating and prosecuting the prior administration in American Courts. They can passively allow INTERPOL do the investigations, get the warrants, and let the International Criminal Court jerk whomever is to be prosecuted for war crimes into the Hague, thence off to prison.

That's my read on it. McCarthy's analysis is excellent, but Obama and crew do everything with a carefully thought-out strategy to destroy us. He has a plan.

The depth of guile and evil in this man Obama and Axelrod is beyond anything I can imagine.

Does anyone notice? Does anyone care? Michelle Malkin notes that ABC's Jake Tapper -- one of scant few MSM reporters apparently interested in this hyper-sinister story of eroding US sovereignty voluntarily surrendered by a US president -- has twice asked the White House for comment and twice received no response. The Washington Examiner editorial today reports that the newspaper has been similarly stonewalled:

The Examiner has asked for but not yet received from the White House press office an explanation of why the president signed this executive order and who among his advisers was involved in the process leading to his doing so. Unless the White House can provide credible reasons to think otherwise, it seems clear that Executive Order 12425's consequences could be far-reaching and disastrous. To cite only the most obvious example, giving Interpol free rein to act within this country could subject U.S. military, diplomatic, and intelligence personnel to the prospect of being taken into custody and hauled before the International Criminal Court as 'war criminals.'

If the White House won't answer the media, I think the people need to put the question themselves to the White House.

What is the future of the Western
democracy? A look at Britain over the last 12 months seems to provide some
clues. In one way or another Islamism was a constant theme, though party
politics were volatile by almost any standards. Having long ignored the will of
the people in every area – from law and order to immigration – and demonizing
those brave enough to raise uncomfortable, but important issues, the
political class began to feel the heat of the nation’s boiling anger. Pressure
from the top had kept a lid on things, but in 2009 politics began to spill onto
the streets, with “anti-Islamization” protests emerging up and down the
country. The response was to give more money to tackling the “far-Right.” However,
most of the protestors appear to have been ordinary citizens.

Anti-Israel protests have been
held over the last few years, though these exploded across Britain in January.
In September a London march in support of terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah
attracted a few thousand, though it did not attract any condemnation from the
political class or mainstream media. But, then, double standards and
contradiction was a theme in itself in 2009. David Miliband condemned Geert
Wilders’ film Fitna as “hate-filled,” but he had not seen it. The Chancellor of the Exchequer – responsible for
the nation’s taxes – claimed for assistance with his tax return. Sir John
Chilcot said the legality of the Iraq war would be central to his
investigation, though the investigating committee would have no legal expert.
And so on, and so on.

Truth itself seems a casualty of
modern Britain. Instead an ideology, a zeitgeist, is apparent, with politicians
and the cultural “elite” seeming merely to repackage, in more sober language,
the prejudices of a fascistic-Left: Take, for example, the support for Hamas by
socialist street protestors, and the interview of Hamas’ leader in the New
Statesman; or George Galloway’s call
for protestors to “shut down Israel shops” and the Department of
Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs new labeling guidelines for Israeli
products that would make them easier to boycott, and the open political propaganda
that accompanied its labeling advice.

Below we have listed some of the
most important events of the year, with particular attention paid to Islamism
(and the backlash against it) and to party politics. Although I have listed
events by month, some, such as protests, naturally reemerge at different
time.

January:

Mass “pro-Palestinian” protests
are organized in several British cities, including London ostensibly in
response to Israel’s assault on Hamas. The protests are organized by the
far-Left Socialist Workers Party in conjunction with various Islamic
organizations. Many of these descend into chaos, with protestors amassing
outside the Israeli embassy (held back by police), at least two Starbucks cafes
being
vandalized and ransacked. Several Jews are
also attacked by Muslim youths during the same period. Speakers
at one Hyde Park rally includes Labour MP Martin Linton, far-Left Respect MP
George Galloway, pop singer Annie Lennox, and terrorism
apologist Azzam Tamimi.

A ten-minute-long
video showing riot police running from a mob of “pro-Palestinian”
protestors circulates the net, appearing briefly on the Daily Mail’s website. Protestors shout “Allah Akbar,” “free,
free Palestine,” and “run you poofs,” “run you cowards,” “run you swine,” and
“kafir” as they chase the police. The police appear to have no control over the
situation.

The Labour Friends of Palestine
is inaugurated.
The main speaker at the event was due to be Cherie Blair, wife of former prime
minister Tony Blair, but she is unavailable
to attend. Labour MP Martin Linton is the organization’s chairman.

The Conservative Party’s Conservative
Muslim Forum issues as statement on the Israel-Hamas conflict. The statement
says that, “Israel’s actions are extreme, totally disproportionate and inhuman;”
“The Israeli government has blocked the international media from entering Gaza;
we feel this is because they have something to hide;” and that the CFM “is
deeply concerned that Israel’s action […] may provoke people to take extreme
actions [in Britain] whose [sic] repercussions can last for years.”

February:

Dutch MP Geert Wilders is due to
visit Britain. He has been invited by United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) peer Lord Pearson of Rannoch and
cross-bencher Baroness Cox to show his controversial movie Fitna
in a private screening in the House of Lords. (The movie, approximately 17
minutes long, is composed of documentary footage of hate preachers, various
terrorist attacks, including 9/11, and spoken extracts from the Koran. No
actors are used.) Learning of this, Lord Ahmed threatens to amass 10,000
Muslims outside the House of Lords if Wilders is allowed inside, and writes a
letter of complaint to the Home Office. The Home Office decides to ban Wilders
from entering Britain, claiming that he is a threat to public security. The ban
is publicly supported by Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who says that there
are limits to free speech, and who describes Fitna as “hate-filled,” although he admits not having seen
it.

Geert Wilders is expelled from
Britain after landing at Heathrow airport. Melanie Phillips remarks
that, “[i]f anyone had doubted the extent to which Britain has capitulated
to Islamic terror, the banning of Geert Wilders[…] should surely open their
eyes.” Wilders calls the
British government “the biggest bunch of cowards in Europe.”

The CIA informs president Obama
that Pakistani-born extremists in the UK pose
the most significant terrorist threat to the US. 40 percent of all US
anti-terror operatives are now active in Britain.

After a lengthy legal battle, it
is reported
that “Osama Bin Laden's right hand man in Europe,” Abu Qatada can be
deported to Jordan, where he is wanted for terrorist offenses.

The Obama administration returns
a bronze bust of Winston Churchill. It had been given pride of place in the
Oval office during president Bush’s two terms in office, and was regarded as a
symbol of the “special relationship” between the two countries and their joint
war on terror.

David Hartshorn, head of the
Metropolitan police’s public order branch warns
of a “summer of rage,” due to the economic downturn. Those affected, he says,
might become “footsoldiers” in possibly violent, mass protests.

March:

President Obama meets prime
minister Gordon Brown. Brown gives Obama unique and priceless gifts, including
a penholder crafted from the anti-slave ship HMS Gannet. In return, Obama gives
Brown a box set of 25 DVDs. Brown has poor vision, and the DVDs are
incompatible with British DVD players. Despite the prime minister’s lack of
popular appeal, the British press widely
regard this as an insult, especially considering the British-US military
alliance in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Dr. Ibrahim el Moussaoui, a
former Hezbollah spokesperson and former head of al-Manar Television is due to
lecture to an audience of government and high-ranking police officials at the
London School of Oriental and African Studies. Moussaoui had visited Britain on
previous occasions, though media outlets in the UK and USA now put pressure on
the British government to ban Moussaoui. Douglas Murray of The Centre for
Social Cohesion writes to the Home Secretary to express concern. The center
also seeks religious law expert Paul Diamond’s advise on the possibility
of an arrest warrant.

Islam4UK protests
against the Royal Anglian Regiment at their homecoming parade. Enraged,
supporters of the regiment protest against the Islamists. Two supporters of the
regiment are subsequently arrested, although none of the Islamists are
arrested. Islam4UK is a reincarnation of al Muhajiroun, the latter of which
widely regarded as a
terrorist group.

It transpires that Jalal Ahmed (a
protestor who had brandished a sign reading “Anglian soldiers: Butchers of
Basra” at the aforementioned homecoming) works as a baggage handler at Luton
airport, and has an airside security pass. His father tells
the Daily Star that his son is “proud to be British.”

The Home Office bans Moussaoui from
entering Britain.

Communities secretary Hazel
Blears cuts
ties to the Muslim Council of Britain after it refused to condemn its deputy
secretary-general Daud Abdullah who has signed a public declaration of
support for Hamas. The declaration also appears to endorse attacks against the
British navy should it attempt to prevent arms shipments to the terrorist group.

April:

Budget deficit for 2008/09 is revealed
to be nearly 90 billion pounds. This is the largest on record, and double the
figure predicted by Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, in
the 2008 budget.

The Conservative Party expels
betting tycoon Stuart Wheeler for donating 100,000 British pounds to UKIP.

Harriet Harman unveils
plans for the “Equalities Bill.” Controversially, public bodies will be
able to award contracts to private companies on the basis of their “diversity.”
In hiring, companies will also be able to discriminate in favor of minorities
and women if they are equally qualified with White or male applicants (it will
remain illegal for companies to discriminate in favor of minorities or women if
they are less qualified). Critics say that such legislation will only hurt companies,
and British business overall, in the economic downturn.

May:

The “expenses
scandal” begins to unfold: A computer disc containing more than 1.5
million MPs’ receipts is examined by a group of reporters. The Cabinet’s
expenses are published, and MP’s expenses
come in for increasing scrutiny.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith had “mistakenly” claimed
for several pay-per-view movies watched by her husband. Causing much
embarrassment, two of these were “adult” movies. Alistair Darling has
claimed for a reimbursement for help with his personal taxes. As Chancellor
of the Exchequer, Darling is responsible for nation’s budget, including
taxation. Former Labour MP Elliot Morley has
claimed 16,000 to pay for a mortgage that had already been paid off. Labour is hit hardest by the scandal,
though other parties are affected, with embarrassing claims having been made by
senior Conservative party members. Former Conservative Cabinet minister Douglas
Hogg, for example, has
claimed 2,000 pounds to pay for a moat at his country estate to be cleared.
As the public’s anger grows, and the press reveals more and more dubious
claims, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Michael Martin, is pressured to resign.
Critics blame him personally for allowing claims to get out of hand. He is the
first Speaker to be forced
to resign since 1695.

Three men are
convicted for the 2008 arson attack on the Gibson Square publishing house,
after it published The Jewel of
Medina, a novel about the youngest wife
of Mohammed.

The Home Office draws up a list
of 16 people to be banned from entering Britain. This is the first time banned
individuals have been publicly
named. The list – which includes radical Islamists who have glorified
terrorism, Russian neo-Nazis, and
US “shock jock” Michael Savage – is widely considered a stunt, and
ridiculed for its multicultural composition. Many on the list have expressed no
interest in visiting Britain, and some are incarcerated abroad.

Former Conservative chairman Lord
Tebbit urges voters to boycott the main three parties (including the
Conservatives) in the EU elections, and to vote for one of the smaller parties,
excluding the BNP, which he describes as
“Labour with racism.” Tebbit’s comments are widely regarded
as a hint to vote for UKIP.

June:

Beverley Hughes, the minister for
families, announces
that she will resign the government in the impending reshuffle of the cabinet.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith also announces
her resignation.

Communities secretary Hazel
Blears quits
the government. David Cameron goads Brown, saying:
“the minister in charge of local government is resigning the day before the
local elections. Isn’t the fact that she has chosen today of all days to go a
direct challenge to his authority.” Cameron says that Brown should call a
general election.

Local elections leave the
governing Labour party badly
beaten, with only 23 percent of the vote.

The European elections are held.
The Conservative Party comes top with 27.7 percent of the vote and a total of
26 MEPs. UKIP comes
second with 16.5 percent of the vote, giving them 13 MEPs. The governing
Labour party is down seven percent to 15.7, coming third. Labour has 13 MEPs.
This is the party’s worst election
results since the Second World War. The Liberal Democrats come fourth with
13.7 percent. 11 MEPs. The Green
Party gets 8.6 percent of the vote, and two MEPs. The BNP gets 6.2 percent,
giving them their first two
seats in the EU parliament. Party chairman Nick Griffin for the Northwest
region, and Andrew Brons in North Yorkshire.

James Purnell, the work and
pensions secretary, quits
the cabinet and calls on Gordon Brown to resign. Purnell’s resignation is
seen as another serious blow to the prime minister’s credibility, and ability
to govern.

Europe minister Caroline Flint quits
the government, accusing Brown of using here as “window dressing.” The
government appears to be in tatters.

Members of the far-Left,
direct-action group, Unite Against Fascism pelt Griffin
with eggs as he holds a press conference outside the Houses of Parliament.
He is forced to abandon the conference.

Sheiykh Allama Shahid Raza Naeemi,
founder of the British Muslim Forum, tells
extremist Muslims to leave the UK during a conference in West Yorkshire:
“If you hate pork, if you hate other non-Muslims, if you hate the police, if
you hate moderate Sufi Muslims, if you hate the British Government, then feel
welcome to leave this country.”

Britain’s prison newspaper, Inside
Times, burns
all 50,000 copies of its current issue, at a cost of 15-20,000 UK pounds,
after fears that a satirical article on Swine Flu might upset Muslim inmates. The article, by
Andy Thackwray, a prisoner at HMP Hull, and entitled “Porky’s Revenge,”
suggests that Osama bin Laden created Swine Flu as part of his “global ‘war on
pork’.” “So, to try to get in Allah’s good books, Bin Laden created his own
‘halal flu virus’ with the intention of eradicating every pig in Christendom
[…] denying us our daily bacon,” Thackwray writes. The article is also
accompanied by a
cartoon of a cutesy-looking pig wearing a turban and beard. In response to
his article, Thackwray is
charged with a disciplinary offense against prison rules, and placed in
Segregation, before being transferred to another prison. Jailhouselawyer's Blog
remarks
that it is “offensive that a [sic] English prisoner is punished under the
Prison Rules 1999 for depicting a terrorist as a pig.”

Anjem Choudary announces that the
terrorist group al Muhajiroun will officially
reform.

Douglas Murray of the Centre for
Social Cohesion is due to
debate Anjem Choudary. The invitation was issued by a group calling itself
the “Global Issues Society.” The group is, in actuality, al
Muhajiroun/Islam4UK. Murray attends as scheduled, but the debate is cancelled
after men and women are forcibly segregated, and a member of the public
assaulted by al Muhajiroun/Islam4UK. Murray is also threatened.

Civitas claims that there are now at
least 85
sharia courts operating in Britain.

The English Defence League forms
in response to Islam4UK’s Luton protest in March, and, according
to an EDL statement, “due to frustration at the lack of any significant
action by the British Government against extremist Muslim preachers and
organizations[…] We have had enough of our Government ignoring both the problem
itself and the cries for action from the majority of those in this country.”
The EDL are accused of being “far-Right” and even “Nazis” by the UAF, while the
news media also describes them group as “far-Right” or “Rightwing.” The Centre
for Social Cohesion claims
that a few members of the skinhead “Blood and Honour” movement and one
member of the National Front attended the EDL’s Luton protests. A
spokesman for the EDL says “We hate Nazis as much as Muslim extremists. The
leader of the EDL Youth is Black, we're not a racist organization.” Masked
members of the EDL (three of which are Black) later burn a swastika flag in a
press conference [video],
“to show that we hate Nazis, we don’t agree with extremism. We are a
multicultural group of people. We are a Black and White organization that
anyone can join.”

July:

A Danish, Muslim man, of Asian
origin, is stabbed, hit with bricks, and has acid poured down his throat in an
“honor attack.” He suffers 90 percent burns, is blinded, and has his tongue
destroyed by the attack. The victim was having an affair with a married Muslim
woman, and the “honor attack” is in response. Police tell the woman that she
could be murdered.

Labour loses Glasgow East to the
Scottish National Party in a local election. Glasgow East was previously
considered to be one of Labour’s safest seats. It now looks certain that Gordon
Brown cannot survive as prime minister or Labour leader for much longer. The Independent calls
the defeat “a portent of worse to come.”

Neo-Nazi Neil Lewington, 43, is
arrested. He lives with his parents, but has allegedly turned his bedroom
into a bomb factory, and intends to commit acts of terror against British
Asians. He is a member of a previously unknown group called Waffen SS UK. He
tells the arresting officers “I’m Bin Laden. I just wanted a pyrotechnic
weekend with my girlfriend.”

August:

Community cohesion minister
Shahid Malik says
that he will divert money intended to tackle al-Qaeda recruitment to fund
tackling the far-Right. He also says that the government’s anti-radicalization
program “Prevent” (full title: “Preventing Violent Extremism”) would be renamed
because some Muslims were upset by its emphasis on “violent extremism.” The
move is derided as dangerous, and as a transparent attempt to woo the Muslim
vote.

David Miliband says
on a BBC radio talk show that terrorism is sometimes “justifiable, and [that]
there are circumstances in which it is effective.”

The EDL protest in Birmingham,
but are attacked by Muslim youths and UAF members. The Daily Mail publishes
photographs of a bloodied EDL member. An anti-EDL protestor later writes a
letter of apology to the people of Birmingham, published in the Birmingham
Post. He says
that “The young Muslims who rampaged through the city streets were incited
to violence by UAF activists. I was near the front of the rally in Rotunda
Square and I saw how they worked and I saw how it got out of hand. The UAF should
have switched rhetoric when they saw that the young Muslims were getting
restless and angry. Instead what they did was get increasingly aggressive
speakers to talk about ‘smashing the BNP’ (who not directly involved with the
protest) whilst sending agitators into the crowd, with megaphones, to whip up
anger there.”

Salma Yaqoob calls
for the EDL to be banned from protesting in Birmingham. Yaqoob is a
councilor for the Respect coalition, described by Terry Glavin as “an open
collaboration between British Islamists and the Socialist Workers Party.”

Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan appears on
the Glenn Beck show, strongly criticizing the National Health Service, and
warning America against nationalized healthcare. David Cameron rebukes Hannan,
calling his opinions “eccentric,” and claiming that the Conservatives stand
“full square behind the NHS.”

The Telegraph reveals
that public swimming baths are holding separate swimming sessions for
Muslims: “across the UK municipal pools are holding swimming sessions
specifically aimed at Muslims, in some case imposing strict [Islamic] dress
codes.”

The Scottish government frees the
Lockerbie terrorist bomber, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, and allows him to return to
Libya, ostensibly on compassionate grounds, as he has been diagnosed with
prostate cancer, and given only a few months to live. Most of the victims of
the Lockerbie bombing
were American, and the decision to free al-Megrahi angers
the US government and people. Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi thanks Gordon
Brown for influencing the Scottish government’s decision. Gaddafi’s son Saif
al-Islam tells Libyan TV
that al-Megrahi’s release was first raised in discussions about oil and gas. There
is speculation in Britain – and increasing
evidence – that his release was part of a British-Libyan oil exploration
deal. In November al-Megrahi is discharged
from hospital, and returns to live in his family villa in Tripoli. It is
reported in December that his cancer has worsened.

September:

200 “Asian youths” attack
police in the Bury Park area of Luton. The youths had heard that a
“rightwing” march was going to take place, though no protestors arrive. Later,
in November, the News of the World will
claim that, “In the past 18 months 30 non-Muslim homes have been targeted
by extremists in the Bury Park area of Luton because they don't want
non-believers living there.”

The EDL protest in Birmingham.
Birmingham Central Mosque chairman Dr Mohammad Naseem has told Muslims to “vent
their feelings,” and counter protest. Violence
ensues as Muslims youth and UAF protestors confront the EDL.

A death
threat against the blogger Lionheart is made on a public, Muslim internet
chat room. The threat is made by a user called Bilal, who, according to his
post, is affiliated with Islam4UK. He tells Muslims to circulate Lionheart’s
photograph (which he posts on the chat room), and says, “you know what to do.”
“[K]eep an eye on the news. Allaah [sic] knows, you might see a repeat of what
happened to Theodoor van Gogh at the hands of our beloved brother Mohammed
Bouyeri in Amsterdam on 2 November 2004.” The threat goes unreported by the
mainstream media.

Anjem Choudary
sends a video
message to the EDL.

The Sun reports
that 40 terrorists have been freed from jail, and have been housed in probation
hostels. “They can be subject to curfews but are free during the day.”

Stop the Islamisation of Europe (SIOE)
plan to demonstrate on September 11 against the building of a “mega mosque.”
(EDL members are also said to be intending to protest with SIOE.) Shaaz
Mahboob, the Vice-Chair of British Muslims for Secular Democracy says that his organization
is also “extremely concerned about the rise of extremism and political Islam in
Britain,” but asks SIOE to call off the demonstration. SIOE intends to protest
nevertheless, but the demonstration, though legal, is called off at the last minute
by SIOE leader Stephen Gash, who has been arrested. Only a dozen SIOE
protestors arrive, and have to be protected from UAF and Muslim youth counter
protestors (approximately 1,000 in total). Police are attacked
with bricks, sticks, and bottles as the counter protest descends into chaos
[video].

September 12, communities
secretary John Denham compares
the EDL to Oswald Mosley’s
pre-World War II British Union of Fascists. “You could go back to the 1930s if
you wanted to – [the battle of] Cable Street and
all of those types of things. The tactic of trying to provoke a response in the
hope of causing wider violence and mayhem is long established on the far-right
and among extremist groups.”

Former London mayor Ken
Livingstone interviews
Hamas leader Khaled Meshal in the Leftwing New Statesman.

A rally is held in London for the
“pro-Palestinian” (i.e., anti-Israel) al-Quds Day, founded by Ayatollah
Khomeini. The venue
is moved from Trafalgar square to Pall Mall due to the likelihood of an EDL
protest against the rally. A few thousand attend the al-Quds rally, carrying
Hezbollah flags, and signs reading “we are all Hizbollah,” “we are all
Hamas,” “Boycott Israel,” “Zionism is racism,” “end apartheid Israel,” etc.
Others carry placards bearing portraits of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali
Khamenei and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, (the latter of which has
said of the Jews, “If they all gather in Israel, it will save us the
trouble of going after them worldwide”). Speakers at the rally include Dr. Daud
Abdullah of the now disgraced Muslim Council of Britain, Yvonne Ridley (a
socialist-turned-political-Muslim and a presenter for the Tehran-financed,
London-based Press TV), and Rabbi Ahron Cohen, a leader of Neturei Karta who spoke
at Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s 2006 Holocaust denial conference. There Cohen claimed
that the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust “deserved
it,” and that it was ordained by G-d. The British press describe the London
al-Quds rally as a multicultural peace march. Not one mainstream media outlet
notes the support for terrorist groups or the background of the speakers. Nor
do mainstream politicians condemn it.

Police initiate a new
drive to tackle “honor crime.” Crimes will be treated as such where there
is the slightest evidence, even if they have not been reported as “honor”
based.

October:

After a vote of its members, the
BNP agrees
to amend its constitution to allow non-Whites to join. This move is
prompted by the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s legal action against the
BNP, which also forces a temporary membership ban.

BNP chairman Nick Griffin appears
on Question
Time – a BBC, current affairs show on air since 1979 – alongside Labour MP Jack
Straw, Conservative MP Baroness Warsi, LibDem MP Chris Huhne, and Chicago-born
playwright Bonnie Greer. (The Conservative Party later posts a video on its homepage
entitled “Sayeeda Warsi: Behind the scenes at Question Time with the BNP.”)
Griffin’s appearance is highly controversial and widely reported in the press.
Hundreds of UAF
members protest outside the BBC as the episode is filmed, and some
protestors manage to penetrate the building, smashing down a barrier in the
process. Three police
are injured in the chaos. Author and journalist Ian Dale
accuses
the UAF of using “fascist tactics.”

Andrew Neather, a former advisor
to Tony Blair says that mass immigration into Britain was planned, and not a
mistake as previously believed. “Mass migration was the way that the Government
was going to make the UK truly multicultural,” said Neather in
an op-ed piece for the Evening Standard.
Neather also claims that mass immigration was meant to render the traditional
position of the Conservatives redundant, assuring that Labour would remain in
power.

The Centre for Social Cohesion reports that the office
of London Mayor Boris Johnson (Conservative) rubber stamped an invitation to
Mohamed Ali Harrath, the chief executive of the Islam Channel, to speak at an
Islamic celebration in London. Harrath is a former member of the terrorist
group the Tunisian Islamic Front, and subject to an Interpol red notice. He is
also wanted by the Tunisian authorities on terrorist charges.

The Asylum and Immigration
Tribunal overturns
the ban on Geert Wilders entering Britain.

Britain is predicted
to hit 70
million by 2029. Home Secretary Alan Johnson says
that the country would be able to “cope.” (Britain is slightly smaller
than Oregon.)

Queen’s College, Oxford,
establishes the Neda Soltan scholarship in honor of the Iranian music student
who died in Tehran, after being shot by a Basiji during a pro-democracy
demonstration. The Times later learns
that the British government would have advised against setting up the
scholarship, and believes it to be “another nail in the coffin” of the
British-Iranian relationship.

Islam4UK advertises its London
rally, calling for
full sharia law for the UK. They also say they will turn Buckingham
Palace into
a mosque, and ask the queen to convert to Islam or go into exile. The group
later cancels its
rally after the EDL and several Muslim groups, including British Muslims for Secular Democracy,
decide to counter
protest.

Geert Wilders meets
UKIP’s Lord Pearson in London. Islam4UK protest outside with banners
reading “Sharia is the solution, freedom go to hell” and “Geert Wilders
deserves Islamic punishment.” One protester tells Press TV [video] they are there to
“warn him.” “Obviously he knows
that in Islam the punishment for the one who insults the prophet is capital
punishment, and he should take lessons from people like Theo van Gogh.”

The Palestinian Return Centre announces
a pro-Palestinian (or pro-Hamas)
conference to be held in London. Krisztina
Morvai, leader of the Hungarian Jobbik
party, is one of the listed speakers. Morvai’s invitation, and the negative
press that follows, causes Labour MP Neil Gerrard to withdraw
from the conference. Fellow speaker Baroness Jenny Tonge is pressured to withdraw.

November:

The BNP announces a new EU-wide bloc,
formed with Jobbik, the (Walloon) National Front, (French) National Front,
(Italian) Tricolor Flame, and the (Swedish) National Democrats. The bloc is
called “European Alliance of National Movements.”

The Palestinian Return Centre axes
Krisztina Morvai from its advertised conference.

British Socialist theorist Chris Harman
dies in Cairo. Harman was an editor of Britain’s Socialist Worker for two decades, and the author of 1994 essay “The Prophet and the Proletariat,”
in which he argued that socialists should align themselves with Islamists. In
its eulogy for Harman, the Independent says
the essay was “crucial in pioneering an analysis of political Islam even
before 9/11, and thus preparing socialists to combat war and islamophobia.”

Lord Pearson is elected
as the new leader of UKIP. The Independent
accuses
him of “playing the Islam card to win.” The Telegraph says
that, “UKIP has acquired a formidable leader.”

Pakistani-born Rajinder Singh
(described by the press as an “anti-Islamic” Sikh) will reportedly
become the BNP’s first non-White member. A BNP spokesman describes
Singh as “the kind of immigrant you want if you are going to have them.”

David Cameron says that the
Conservatives will not hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. Earlier he had
pledged “[…] that if the constitution is not in force in the event of the
election of a Conservative government this year or next, we will hold a
referendum on it, urge a no vote, and – if successful – reverse Britain’s
ratification.” Euroskeptics noted originally that the Treaty was almost certain
to have been ratified by that time, and thus Cameron’s promise was an empty
one.

MEPs Roger Helmer and Daniel
Hannan resign
from the Conservative frontbench in protest at Cameron’s announcement that he
will not pursue a referendum on the EU constitution.

Sir John Chilcot opens an inquiry
into the Iraq invasion. Chilcot says that the legality of the 2003 invasion
will be one
of the main areas of investigated. The investigating panel will not,
however, include a legal expert.

With the Lisbon Treaty ratified, Baroness
Ashton of Upholland is made
EU foreign affairs chief. Ashton is an unknown in British politics. UKIP’s
Nigel Farage refers to her and appointed EU president, Herman Van Rompuy, as
“pygmies,” during a session of the EU parliament. He goes on to suggest that
Ashton “was treasurer during a period when CND took very large donations and
refused to reveal the sources.” “Will Baroness Ashton,” he asks, “deny that
while she was treasurer she took funds from organizations opposed to
Western-style democracy? Are we really happy that somebody who will be in charge
of our overseas security policy was an activist in an outfit like CND? I do not
think she is a fit and proper person to do this job.” Ashton’s spokesman later
claims that “during her time in the CND she never visited the Soviet Union, had
no contact with the Soviet Union and has never accepted any money from Soviet
sources.”

Emails from researchers at
the University of East Anglia are exposed. Some of the emails show that
prominent climate scientists have withheld
information that contradicted their claims on global warming, and have also
sort to marginalize journals and editors that disagreed with their assessment.
The episode becomes known as “climategate.”

Jobbik establishes
a London branch. The purpose of the British Jobbik Society is to inform
Hungarians in Britain about the party’s agenda.

BNP chairman Nick Griffin is announced
as the representative of the EU parliament's environmental committee for the
December climate change conference in Copenhagen.

The Times claims
that Mr al-Awlaki – preacher to Fort Hood shooter Major Nidal Hasan – has “a
large following in Britain and counts prominent mainstream Muslims among his
supporters.”

A group of Muslim men (who appear
to be part of Islam4UK) pelt Baroness Warsi with eggs while she is on a
walkabout in Luton [video]. They
shout “this woman doesn't represent us,” and “she doesn't agree with sharia law.”
The News of the World says
that the “demonstrators in Luton cannot be passed off as just a few
hotheads letting off steam. They're part of a much bigger problem – and a
dangerous one.”

December:

According
to a London Daily News poll, 75 percent of Londoners support the Swiss ban
on minarets.

John Denham says that 5 million
pounds will be made available to councils in England and Wales to tackle
far-Right extremism, although al-Qaeda remains the priority. “It is important
that local Muslim communities do not feel they are being singled out if other
forms of extremism are a threat in the area,” Denham
says.

Adam Khatib, 22, Nabeel Hussain,
25, and Mohammed Shamin Uddin, 39, are
convicted of the 2006 plot to blow up passenger airplanes between Britain
and the US.

A study conducted by the Open Society Institute (founded by controversial
multi-billionaire George Soros) finds
that British Muslims are the most patriotic in Europe. According to the
study, 77 percent British Muslims say they identify with Britain, while only 50
percent of non-Muslim Britons say the same. The IPPR also reports that more
than one million Muslim immigrants live in the UK, because, in
the words of the Daily Mail, “it is
more sympathetic towards Islam than other European countries.”

Prime minister Gordon Brown visits
British troops in Afghanistan. He is the first prime minister to stay
overnight in a combat zone with troops since Churchill.

Rt Rev Stephen Venner, bishop to
the armed forces, says
that the Taliban should not be regarded as wholly evil, but that they “can
perhaps be admired for their conviction to their faith and their sense of
loyalty to each other.”

Nick Griffin attends the
Copenhagen climate change conference. He claims
that concern over global warming has meant that crops normally grown for food
have been replaced by crops grown for fuel, causing famine. “This will be […]
the greatest famine of the modern era and I regard that as a crime.”

Gordon Brown visits Copenhagen to
try to push for a deal on cutting carbon emissions – “to shape the future of
humanity. It is a defining moment,” he
says.

A British court issue an arrest warrant
for former Israeli foreign minister, Tzipi Livni. The request for the warrant
was submitted by a “pro-Palestinian” organization for alleged war crimes
committed by the Israeli government in Operation
Cast Lead, launched in December 2008 in response to Hamas rocket attacks.
Livni is forced to cancel a trip to Britain. A senior Israeli official is reported
as saying, “every week in London, you have people visiting from countries
undemocratic in the extreme and with atrocious human rights records, yet this
happens to the leader of the Israeli opposition? That is a perversion of the
British sense of fair play.” Legal experts say that “universal jurisdiction”
could be abused to harass or incarcerate any high profile visitor to the UK
that has had a prominent role in a military conflict or anti-terror operations,
including Barack Obama. Foreign secretary David Miliband later
says that the legislative harassment of Israeli officials will no longer be
tolerated, and that, “Israel is a strategic partner and a close friend of the
United Kingdom. We are determined to protect and develop these ties.”

The Department of Environment,
Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) issues
new guidelines [pdf]
for the labeling of products from Israel. The document is entitled “Technical advice:
labelling of produce grown in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” but
articulates, at length, a clear political message. For example, it states that,
“Israeli settlements in the OPT are unlawful under international law;” “the
[UK] Government believes that the existence – and continued growth – of Israeli
settlements poses a significant obstacle to peace in the Middle East,” etc. The
document also says that, “Traders and retailers may wish to indicate whether
the product originated from an Israeli settlement or from Palestinian
producers. This could take the form, for example, of ‘Produce of the West Bank
(Israeli settlement produce)’ or ‘Produce of the West Bank (Palestinian
produce)’, as appropriate.” The Kadima party, led by Tzipi Livni, calls
for a boycott of British products and airlines, The move has the backing of
nearly half of the Knesset, with some MPs likening the new food labeling
guidelines to early attacks on Jewish businesses and property by the Nazis.

Mehmet Goren, 49, is
convicted for the “honor killing” of his 15 year-old daughter Tulay. Goren
had already been convicted for seven years for attacking Tulay’s boyfriend with
an axe after the murder of his daughter. Police say that they came into contact
with Tulay several times a couple of months prior to her murder, but ignored
“tell-tale signs.”

The BBC reports
that Wales may soon get its first sharia court. Shaykh Siddiqi says that
the court will give “third or fourth generation British Muslims who are growing
up[…] the services necessary to make Britain their homeland.”

A top Hamas official tells the Times that the terrorist organization is behind the
campaign to arrest Israeli officials as they enter Britain. The Times says that,
“The campaign by Hamas takes advantage of an aspect of law in England and Wales
that allows anyone to apply for an arrest warrant for alleged war crimes without
the need for a prosecuting lawyer.”

Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, 23,
attempts to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger flight as it is about to
land in Detroit. Al-Qaeda expert Rohan Gunaratna says
that, “it seems clear that Mutallab was recruited in London — probably not
at a mainstream mosque but on the sly with militant groups.”

The Daily Mail says
that the EDL has now attracted “some of the most violent football hooligans
in Britain” to their ranks. The newspaper also publishes a photograph of
several masked EDL members around a woman in a hijab, who “appears intimidated.”

The Spectator says
that Britain’s libel laws means that the country’s press withholds
information on Islamism and related terrorism: “Investigating or writing about
Islamic terrorism […] is perhaps the single most expensive thing that a UK
publication can do […] because you can be guaranteed that lawsuits will
follow[…] We can even be sued for linking to overseas websites, or sued for a
comment on a website.”

Friday’s attempt to blow up a transatlantic airliner by a British-educated Islamist was foiled by the bravery of its passengers and crew. We cannot assume that we will be lucky next time. And the indications are that there will be a next time. According to police sources, 25 British-born Muslims are currently in Yemen being trained in the art of bombing planes. But most of these terrorists did not acquire their crazed beliefs in the Islamic world: they were indoctrinated in Britain. Indeed, thousands of young British Muslims support the use of violence to further the Islamist cause – and this despite millions of pounds poured by the Government into projects designed to prevent Islamic extremism.

Is it time for a fundamental rethink of Britain’s attitude towards domestic Islamism? Consider this analogy. Suppose that, in several London universities, Right?wing student societies were allowed to invite neo-Nazi speakers to address teenagers. Meanwhile, churches in poor white neighbourhoods handed over their pulpits to Jew-hating admirers of Adolf Hitler, called for the execution of homosexuals, preached the intellectual inferiority of women, and blessed the murder of civilians. What would the Government do? It would bring the full might of the criminal law against activists indoctrinating young Britons with an inhuman Nazi ideology – and the authorities that let them. Any public servants complicit in this evil would be hounded from their jobs.

Jihadist Islamism is also a murderous ideology, comparable to Nazism in many respects. The British public realises this; so do the intelligence services. Yet because it arises out of a worldwide religion – most of whose followers are peaceful – politicians and the public sector shrink from treating its ideologues as criminal supporters of violence. Instead, the Government throws vast sums of money at the Muslim community in order to ensure that what is effectively a civil war between extremists and moderates is won by the latter. This policy – supported by all the main political parties – does not seem to be working. The authorities, lacking specialist knowledge, sometimes turn for advice to “moderate” Muslims who have extreme sympathies; supporters of al-Qaeda are paid to disseminate their ideology to young people.

Radical Islamist leaders are not stupid: they know how to play this system. The indoctrination of students carries on under the noses of public servants who are terrified of being labelled Islamophobic or racist. Therefore they fail to do their duty, which is to protect Muslims and non-Muslims alike from a terrorist ideology. If providing that protection requires fewer “consultations” with “community leaders” and more arrests, then so be it.

So reads the headline of a recent Fox News report, which goes on to quote Zawahiri saying things such as 'Obama's policy is nothing but another cycle in the Crusader and Zionist campaign to enslave and humiliate us, and to occupy our land and steal our wealth.'

Two years earlier, Zawahiri was even more dramatic. Then he implored 'blacks in America, people of color, American Indians, Hispanics, and all the weak and oppressed in North and South America, in Africa and Asia, and all over the world, to know that when we wage jihad in Allah's path, we aren't waging jihad to lift oppression from Muslims only; we are waging jihad ... to lift oppression from all mankind. ... This is why I want every oppressed one on the face of the earth to know that our victory over America and the Crusading West -- with Allah's permission -- is a victory for them, because they shall be freed from the most powerful tyrannical force in the history of mankind.'

Unfortunately for al-Qaeda, its very own words -- the Arabic ones directed at fellow Muslims which Westerners rarely see or read -- unequivocally contradict its repeated attempts to portray itself as an organization out to spread Robin Hood-style justice and equanimity vis-à-vis a tyrannical U.S. For in these Arabic treatises, al-Qaeda makes it perfectly clear that, short of submitting to Islamic hegemony, the non-Muslim world is the enemy, ipso facto.

Yet doublespeak is definitely not the sole province of al-Qaeda; the decades-long Arab-Israeli conflict has furnished the world with some of the most flagrant examples of Islamist doublespeak -- emanating from such players as Arafat, the PLO, and Hamas. Hezbollah offers a recent example:

According to Reuters, the terrorist organization's newly revised manifesto 'tones down Islamist rhetoric but maintains a tough line against Israel and the United States. The new manifesto drops reference to an Islamic republic in Lebanon, which has a substantial Christian population, confirming changes to Hezbollah thinking about the need to respect Lebanon's diversity.'

In fact, this 'new' manifesto has been hailed as a progressive step forward for the terrorist organization: an AFP headline tells us that 'Hezbollah strikes softer tone in second manifesto: [according to] analysts,' such as one Paul Salem, head of the Beirut-based Carnegie Middle East Center, who asserts that the 'manifesto is reassuring as it shows Hezbollah's integration with Lebanese political life.'...

Revealed: Muslim bomb plot gang's links to 'mega-mosque' in east London

Ministers should review plans to build a 'mega-mosque' in the East End in the wake of the airline bomb plot trial, the Tories urged today.

Shadow security minister Dame Pauline Neville-Jones said the case had shown that the group behind the mosque may have given cover to extremist activity.

Tablighi Jamaat, which describes itself an Islamic missionary organisation, is pushing for the mosque to be built next to the 2012 Olympics site in Stratford.

and put into play without so much as a murmur from the mainstream media.

Why
should Americans care about this? The reason is that this global
gobbledygook is coming to America, thanks to our globalist president.

The
European human rights group called Stop the Islamisation of Europe
(SIOE) has been working tirelessly to expose the mass Muslim
immigration plan of the Euro-Med Partnership. A statement on the SIOE
website criticizes the secrecy of the process: "It was shocking to hear
about the plans and at the same time knowing that Danish politicians
and a [cowardly] Danish press -- who is otherwise proud to be critical
-- has told nothing to the Danish people about this project which
begins already in January next year. This also showed clearly at the
conference. Only very few politicians showed up and no media. Those
politicians who showed up had obviously never heard about the
Euro-Mediterranean project.

The
goal of the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation is to create a new Greater
European Union encompassing both Europe and North Africa, with the
Mediterranean Sea becoming a domestic Eurabian sea.
The goal is to establish a "comprehensive political partnership,"
including a "free trade area and economic integration"; "considerably
more money for the partners" (that is, more European money flowing into
North Africa); and "cultural partnership" -- that is, importation of
Islamic culture into post-Christian Europe. According to the SIOE, in
the Euro-Med plan, "Europe is to be islamized. Democracy,
Christianity, European culture and Europeans are to be driven out of
Europe. 50 million North Africans from Moslem countries are to be
imported into the EU."

Protests against the regime in Tehran and its heavy-handed treatment of dissidents are growing. One of two things is going to happen. The regime is going to collapse or the mullahs are going to clamp down even harder and the government in Tehran is going to become more extremist and more dangerous. The problem is that the White House is not well-prepared for either outcome.

We are already living inside the margin of error of when Iran might produce a bomb. The administration’s charm offensive has done nothing other than give Iran more time build a nuclear weapon and a missile to put it on.

TEHRAN, Iran - Iranian security forces made a wave of new arrests
Tuesday, including Nobel peace laureate Shirin Ebadi's sister and a
relative of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, pressing forward
with a broadening crackdown on the reformist movement in the wake of
deadly protests this week.

The government accused Western countries of fomenting the violence,
threatening to "slap" Britain in the face as it summoned London's
ambassador to an urgent meeting.

The new arrests, along with tough criticism of the U.S. and Britain,
added to rising tensions with the West, which is threatening to impose
tough new sanctions over Iran's suspect nuclear program and has
criticized the violent crackdown on anti-government protesters in
Tehran.

Iran has said as many as eight people were killed in Sunday's
clashes, the bloodiest violence since the aftermath of June's disputed
presidential election. There was no serious violence reported Tuesday,
but opposition Web sites reported some 10 new arrests, including Dr.
Noushin Ebadi.

Shirin Ebadi, who won the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for her
human-rights efforts in Iran, told the The Associated Press in a phone
interview from London that she called her sister Monday, and that she
was being punished because of the conversation.

"She was warned not to contact me," she said. "She is detained for
the sake of me. She was neither politically active nor had a role in
any rally."

Noushin Ebadi, a medical professor in Tehran, was arrested at her
home by four intelligence agents late Monday and sent to prison,
according to a statement issued by the Nobel laureate.

"It's necessary to point out that in the past two months she had
been summoned several times to the Intelligence Ministry, who told her
to persuade me to give up my human rights activities," the statement
said. "She has been arrested solely because of my activities in human
rights. ... Our country at the moment needs more than anything peace
and quiet in the shadow of respect for law and any kind of behavior
that goes above the law will have negative repercussions."

The opposition Web site Greenroad reported a series of additional
arrests, among them Mousavi's brother-in-law, Shapour Kazemi, and
Mashallah Shamsolvaezin, a journalist who frequently criticizes the
government. Others included the son of a prominent ayatollah, a
reporter for the semi-official ILNA news agency, and several activists.

There are further developments in the Rifqa Bary apostate case. Omar Tarazi, CAIR appointed hate sponsor, wants any
discussion about religious teaching banned. That would include a discussion about
Islam's rules for dealing with converts. What treachery. They want to exclude the evidence behind the very threat to Rifqa and to the millions of other former Muslims who have died trying to escape Islam. How can you hear this case without introducing Islam? It is all about Islam. Just look at what the Muslims have been doing to Rifqa since she converted out of Islam. This cannot stand.

A Plea from Wafa Sultan for Rifqa Bary Wafa Sultan, expert on Islam and the only American citizen forced to live in hiding in the US because of the death threats against her by devout Muslims, speaks out for Rifqa Bary. Unfortunately Rifqa
Bary’s case highlights the danger of creeping Jihad in the Western
world. This is not only because of the imminent danger the teenage girl
may face right here in the US, had the court decided to have her return
to her parents’ home, but also because of the mainstream media’s weak
response to the severity of this case. Regrettably, the lack of
interest by the media in covering her case comes at the expense of the
public’s responsibility to learn the truth about Islam’s detrimental
Sharia (Islamic Law) tenets.

I was born and raised as a
Muslim in Syria. I practiced Islam for thirty years of my life. Now I
am a known human rights activist striving to save our future Muslim
generations from the impact of the violent, hateful Islamic doctrines
embedded in the Sharia. My life is also threatened, not only by my own
extended family, but by countless men who consider themselves devout
Muslims. Under Sharia, if a Muslim leaves Islam or converts to another
religion he / she is an “apostate,” to be killed. Under Sharia every
Muslim has the right to kill such an apostate without any questions asked.

After hearing the
story of Rifqa Bary I urge well meaning American citizens to take
action and keep this innocent girl out of her family’s reach. There are
all kinds of reasons to believe that she will be harmed both
emotionally and physically, or worse—be killed—once her family has
charge of her. Our Western court system must be educated on Islamic
apostasy laws to understand Rifqa Bary’s predicament, and the plight of
all those like her who choose to leave Islam.

I therefore implore our court authorities who are involved in this
case: take notice and listen to individuals like myself. Keeping Rifqa
protected and away from her family is the proper way to go both legally
and morally.

Reading personal mail is an outrage, a federal offense, a basic violation of privacy. Not if you are an apostate, an escapee from Islam -- then you have no rights, as terror organizations use American law to enforce shariah.

Further restrictions include "that all mail to Rifqa from people who aren't relatives will
be reviewed by her guardian ad litem," the attorney appointed by the court to
represent her interests, to "ensure that no inappropriate messages are forwarded
to Ms. Bary." What's inappropriate? Is Merry Christmas inappropriate? CAIR seems to think so. They tried to ban and seize all her Christmas cards.

The Islamic machine wants further restrictions posed on her limited computer use and further restrictions on contact - no communication with the people she loves. It is so bad that Tarazi has Rifqa's lawyer reviewing her mail to censor
things that she is legally privileged to hear from friends and
associates. It cannot get any worse, for her lawyer to be maneuvered into something like that.

Tarazi is lawyering circles around Angela Lloyd and Kourt Gatterdam. He outmaneuvers them at every turn. He is trying to limit testimony more than 24 hours from the event, and to limit testimony on "religious teachings." Lloyd and Gatterdam are too bloody stupid and arrogant to understand the importance of apostasy and honor killings in this case, but Tarazi sure as hell isn't. And he is preparing to litigate.

These clowns Lloyd and Gatterdam thought they had a deal. Well, Tarazi doesn't think that they have a deal. And he is not going to help those fools -- he's got a case of his own to make.

Look -- I have been absolutely correct in my assessment of these lawyers for some time, and of the absolute necessity to try apostasy and honor killings within the context of Rifqa's perception of the strength of the threat made against her by her parents. I say that with absolute assurance. Lawyer Tarazi agrees with us 100%, and will do every thing possible in his power to prevent that from happening.

Now, the next thing that will happen is that he will try to hold them to a quick hearing on the merits. He will use whatever methods he can -- public pressure, press coverage, old cronies, whatever -- to hold the judge's feet to the fire on the trial setting now in place. He has caught Lloyd/Gatterdam with their pants down, engaged in a mutual circle jerk, and he has them right where he wants them. He has just plain outlawyered them.

If Tarazi can hold the court to the trial setting, he wins. Plain and simple. The only way Rifqa can be protected is if these idiots come to their senses, ask for a continuance, and then contact someone who can help them construct an apostasy defense and present it. They are ignorant on that subject. Hopeless, if they do not get the thing continued.

Guardian to review Rifqa's mail

Attorneys for Fathima Rifqa Bary and her parents haven't agreed on much, but
they have settled a couple of small matters in the case of the 17-year-old
runaway.

They have agreed that all mail to Rifqa from people who aren't relatives will
be reviewed by her guardian ad litem, the attorney appointed by the court to
represent her interests, to "ensure that no inappropriate messages are forwarded
to Ms. Bary."

They also have agreed that Rifqa cannot have any contact with Blake Lorenz,
Beverly Lorenz or Brian Williams until her counselor determines whether it would
be in her best interest.

A dependency case to determine where Rifqa should live is making its way
through Franklin County Juvenile Court, where the attorneys frequently file
motions on minute details of Rifqa's life and activities.

For instance, Omar Tarazi, the attorney for Mr. Bary and his wife, Aysha, had
asked that third-party messages to Rifqa be reviewed by Franklin County Children
Services, which has custody of the girl. He was concerned about letter-writing
campaigns to Rifqa publicized on blogs that malign Islam.

Letter writing campaigns to Rifqa from 'blogs that malign Islam'. Uh, that would be me. Reporting on jihad = maligning Islam. That is enforcing sharia law. DO NOT INSULT ISLAM. I am not a dhimmi.

Sending Christmas cards to an isolated Christian girl is somehow made into a subversive act.

That resulted in the agreement to have her guardian look at them. The
magistrate's order says "incoming mail" but does not specify whether that
includes e-mail.

The two sides also have argued over whether Rifqa's counselor should be a
woman. Rifqa's attorneys, Kort Gatterdam and Angela Lloyd, have accused the
Barys of forcing Rifqa to submit to Islam by making her see a male counselor,
because she was raised in a male-dominated home.

Tarazi disputed that, saying Gatterdam and Lloyd file documents "containing
baseless assertions that would be characterized as nothing more than religious
and cultural bigotry."

Did bigotry murder these girls? Are showing these hundreds of dead girls, death mandated by shariah law -- is that "bigotry"?

He has asked that monitoring software be installed on Rifqa's computer
because she made comments online related to the circumstances of her running
away.

Rifqa attends school online -- so now they want to monitor her limited, chaperoned web use? SHARIAH! Why? Why such impossible restrictions on this girl? This is Islam. They will bully, thug, harass her until she reverts.

Gatterdam and Lloyd responded that the Barys are trying to invade Rifqa's
privacy and control her.

Tarazi also has asked the court to rule that no witnesses or others in the
case should be allowed to mention incidents between Rifqa and her parents that
occurred more than 24 hours before she ran away. He also wants to bar any
discussion about religious teaching. That could include a discussion about
Islam's rules for dealing with converts.

Ah, here we have it. No talk of apostasy and Islamic law. THIS CANNOT STAND. This is the threat to Rifqa's life. Islam cannot say it won't be spoken of in an American court of law.

Gatterdam and Lloyd wrote that the parents' earlier behavior is relevant, and
they noted that the parents themselves have brought up religion as a factor in
the case.

The magistrate in the case has yet to rule on those motions.

Gatterdam and Lloyd also wrote, in a document filed Dec. 17, that Tarazi
"made himself unavailable" after they had begun to work "toward a settlement of
the case where one of the terms would have been that all motions and memoranda
would be withdrawn."

None of the attorneys is allowed to talk about the case, under an order from
Juvenile Court Judge Elizabeth Gill.

The next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 19.

In the lead story in Human Events today, I discuss the abject failure of our national approach to counterterror:

The chief lesson of the attempted jihad attack on Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day is that our entire anti-terror strategy is a huge and abject failure. Of course, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano would beg to differ, as she has said that the stopping of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempt to set off an explosive on the airplane showed that 'the system worked' and 'everything happened that should have.'

The 'system worked'? So the 'system' now involves hoping that other passengers will tackle the jihadist? After all, a passenger on Flight 253, Jasper Schuringa, subdued Abdulmutallab. The 'system' now relies on all of the jihadis' detonators failing, as did Abdulmutallab's? Napolitano's optimism was based on an appalling disconnect from reality that in saner times would result in her dismissal. Barack Obama, by contrast, would be more likely to issue her a commendation, if he weren't too busy golfing and shooting hoops during his Hawaii vacation.



In contrast to Napolitano's fantasies, Flight 253 revealed a massive failure not only of airline security procedures, but also of the larger strategy that America and the West has been pursuing against jihad terrorism.

As for airline security procedures, Abdulmutallab was able to get on the airplane without a passport, and with ingredients for an explosive that would have destroyed the plane and killed everyone in it. TSA officials are busy tightening security procedures with new Abdulmutallab-inspired rules such as forcing passengers to stay in their seats for the last hour of the flight, but these new measures will do nothing to prevent another attack. One thing we have seen over the years since 9/11 is that airport security is always one step behind the jihadists: after jihadist Richard Reid attempted to set off a bomb hidden in his shoes, we all have to take off our shoes and send them through security scanners. After a group of jihadists tried to sneak onto planes explosive chemicals hidden in drink bottles, we can't carry drinks through airport security terminals. The vast majority of Muslim refugees
coming to Sweden has been using the services of people smugglers," says

information, Muslim smuggling criminal groups are charging each Muslim customer
10, 000 - 20 000. During the first 11 months of this year, around 19 000 Muslim
asylum-seekers have been smuggled to Sweden. It can be calculated that the Muslim smugglers have earned about 400
million euros, estimates Ahlbäck.



The Swedish police estimates that about 20 gangs specialized in Muslim
smuggling exists in Sweden. Some of the criminal gangs have been operating for
years in this lucrative industry.



The Muslim traffickers are often the same ethnic group as the Muslim who are smuggled.



Years ago the Swedish police managed to catch a number
of Muslim smugglers who were successfully sentenced, but in recent years not as much effort
has been put into the investigation of Muslim smuggling.



In particular, the smuggling of Muslim children to
Sweden has increased in recent years. Four of the five young Muslim asylum
seekers is from Somalia, Iraq or Afghanistan.

A London mosque which hosted a speech by a hardline Muslim cleric earlier this year has said that it was “totally unaware” of whether it was used by syringe bomb suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
Associates of the 23-year-old Nigerian said that he visited the East London Mosque, in Whitechapel.
MI5 believe that the suspect could have developed links with other extremists during three years he spent in Britain studying at University College London. They will investigate where he worshipped and whether he was radicialised in the UK or elsewhere.
